AutoCAD Civil 3D Residential Grading

Course Description
This one day course guides you through a possible grading design process from examination of existing site conditions to a final grading solution. The primary focus of this course is to teach a qualified engineer or designer how Civil 3D can be used as a tool in the grading solution to perform common
engineering tasks more accurately and in less time.

This course is not intended to teach civil engineering principles or to recommend one engineering procedure over another. It is understood that design procedures can and do vary by region, organization, and even individual engineer. Also, due to the time constraints of this course, it is not
possible to show all steps required to refine the grading or to create many of the drafting components that are required for a final plan set. The features of Civil 3D used in the exercises can be applied to these tasks, enabling you to generate a plan‐ready final design.

Course Outline

  • Examining Site Conditions
  • Creating Detention Basins
  • Designing a Roadway Grading
  • Working with Earthwork Volumes
  • Balancing Earthwork
  • Refining Surface Grading
  • Creating and Grading Swales
  • Grading Open Areas
  • Revising the Design

Course Objectives
After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Examine existing site conditions.
  • Create and grade detention basins.
  • Design roadway grading.
  • Calculate and balance earthwork volumes.
  • Grade rear‐yard swales.
  • Grade open areas.
  • Revise and finalize the grading design.
  • Render the design.
  • Label and annotate the design

Course Prerequisites
